Maindee pool set to be Auctioned (2009)

“A SUBSTANTIAL grade-ll listed building with potential for multiple re-development opportunities.”

This is the description given for the former Maindee swimming baths in the catalogue of an auction company which will be putting the property under the hammer next month.

Paul Fosh Auctions’ glossy brochure also points out that any development would be subject to planning permission and that the property has some fire damage.

After it was closed, the building suffered from arson and vandalism attacks.

Last May, the former baths were bought at auction – together with an attached three-bedroomed house – for £76,000 by a Newport man who wanted a family home.

The house is not included in the sale on December 3 but the property does offer two swimming pools.

Paul Fosh Auctions also give the following details about the building:

  • Ground floor with a main entrance hall, reception area and various inner halls
  • Full circle gallery, pump room, offices and changing room
  • Machine and gym rooms

It has a guide price of £52,000 plus.

The auction is being held at the Park Inn Hotel, Circle Way East, Llanedeyrn, Cardiff, from 5pm.

Maindee baths is one of more than 50 lots, including other properties in Gwent such as a warehouse on Portskewett Street, with a guide price of £90,000 plus.
